My
poor poor
Mazda3 hatch. I’m a third to this party. Pathfinder at fault. Turns in front of oncoming traffic, gets smacked in the right rear (ripping the suspension out of the chassis and blowing both airbags) and spun 360 before it begins to roll backward in an arc into my front. The car doing the damage got a total frontal Hulk smash job.
(The at fault vehicle on the flat-bed, Captioning in Kinja is middle finger provoking)
A few thousand dollars of damage for sure to me. Bumper, Headlight, fender, hood, hood hinges skewed, rear bumper - as it pushed me back in another car behind. The car drives straight and no leaks as of yet. But I only have a high beam at unknown alignment to use in the dark.
Anyone with first-hand experience in getting American Family Insurance to pay up? Deciding who to file with, my guys who have always treated me fair, or AFI? If I file with my guys, they pay out quick, etc, do the proper thing and then send AFI a check to subrogate them. I file with AFI, I’m sure they’ll drag it out long enough until I get tired of it all and settle for less than I should.
Anyone with first-hand experience with the other side of AFI?

Is there an upside with the other insurance? Otherwise any risk in them not wanting to pay seems not worth it to me...

Just work through your insurance and let them sue the shit out of the other guy to recoup their costs, its what you pay your insurance for. Don’t even bother trying to work directly with the other company.

i’m assuming you have insurance. When I got hit i had my car looked at and they paid me like a week later. it was the insuarance companies problem if they paid or not. you should talk twith your insurance
also, theres no chance they are going to fix that pathfinder. that things done.

I’d go with your guys.
My friend got hit and tried to file with the other guys company. He gave up after four months of unanswered emails and unreturned calls.

I used to work as a claims adjuster for Progressive. If your deductible is fairly low and you can afford to pau it and you have rental coverage, I say go through yours and they can subro and go after them for reimbursement of your deductible. It’ll save you waiting on the other company. If you have any other questions though, feel free to ask and I can try to help.

If you can afford it go with your own. It seems like less of a hassle.

That sounds like the way I’m leaning. I’m going to file through my guys tomorrow morning. The value to total it with my guys is 70% so if it get’s to about $3500 damages then I’ll expect a check for a totalled value and walk down the street to a dealer lot. I’m posting in a second about with what to replace it. Sad moment ahead in Grind’s world of cars.

A similar thing happened to my dad in his blue 2010 Toyota Camry LE in Providence going to work. A cable network truck blew a stop sign and took out the Camry’s front end bumper. Luckily everyone was ok, and the car could be repaired. The nice thing was getting payed by a major company’s insurance, and the people who fixed the car went above and beyond expectations with the rebuild.

I’ve gone with my own/let them subrogate with a private claim and a company vehicle. It definitely was much less stressful than harassing the other guy’s insurance, but it did take about 9-12 months to get the deductible back.

If you can convince your insurance company not to scrap or take the car, that’s an easy fix with junkyard parts.
